ThreadoOrder your kit

About Threado

Who makes the kits, where they are made, and why the app exists.

Threado is a small workshop in Lahore, Pakistan. We make one thing: a kit that turns a photograph you already own into a piece of string art you wind yourself, by hand, on a wooden loom.

Why the app exists

String art is not difficult, but working out the order the thread has to travel in is. A portrait is a few thousand chords, and the sequence has to be computed — by eye it is guesswork, and guesswork on a loom looks like a smudge.

So we wrote the part that is hard and left you the part that is enjoyable. You upload a photo, the app works out the pin order on your own device, and then it reads the numbers to you one at a time while you wind. There is no drawing and nothing to measure.

What we will not claim

We are new. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

The reviews on our home page are written by us, not collected from customers, and they are labelled as such in our own source code until we can replace them with real ones. If you make a Threado and are willing to tell us what you thought — in your words, not ours — we would genuinely like to put it on the site with your first name and city, and only with your permission.

Where to find us

We are on WhatsApp during the day and on Instagram. A person answers, usually within the hour.
